NFL power rankings Week 1: Monday morning ranks
By Josh Sanchez
After an embarrassing finish to the 2013 campaign, Washington was hoping to get the new season off on the right foot.
Unfortunately, that didn’t happen for Jay Gruden’s new team as they went on to lose the season opener on the road to the Houston Texans, who were the worst team in the NFL a year ago.
Quarterback Robert Griffin III struggled with his deep ball accuracy and coughed up a fumble, and the team’s offense didn’t do themselves any favors by converting on just 3-of-12 third-down attempts.
On defense, Washington was gashed by Texans running back Arian Foster and the secondary allowed big games from Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins.
If Washington can’t find some rhythm on offense and find a way to tighten up on defense, it could be another long year in the nation’s capital.
