NFL Power Rankings: Division rankings

8) NFC East
Aside from Chip Kelly and the Philadelphia Eagles, expectations were at rock bottom levels for the rest of the NFC East prior to the season, and they certainly were “met” in week one. The division boasts three teams that began the campaign with a loss (one of only two divisions to accomplish that feat), and its leading member (those same Eagles) needed a massive comeback to unseat the hapless Jacksonville Jaguars in their opener.
Needless to say, it isn’t a secret why they land in the basement.
The Eagles will almost certainly be a successful team, given Chip Kelly’s play-calling and a world of talent offensively, but the realization of their weaknesses was a frightening one at times against Jacksonville. Elsewhere, the Cowboys boast potentially the worst defense in football and they were badly exposed on both sides of the ball in a 28-17 defeat that seemed far worse against San Francisco.
Both Washington (who lost 17-6 to Houston) and the New York Giants (who suffered a 35-14 defeat to Detroit) had all kinds of offensive woes, and with a gun to my head, it would be difficult to project either to reach the .500 mark this season. All told, the Eagles are easily the cream of the crop in the NFC East, but with the rest of the teams in utter turmoil, the cupboard is relatively bare.
