8) AFC South

The “crown jewel” of the AFC South, the Indianapolis Colts, sits at 0-2 on the young season, and that is one of the driving forces behind the group’s dip to the bottom. Indy was certainly not embarrassed during their Monday night loss to the Eagles, but it is tough to ignore an ugly start for the one team that was pegged with legitimate playoff aspirations in the preseason.

Fortunately, there is a bit of positive news in the division, as the Houston Texans look rejuvenated. Just a season ago, the Texans were 2-14 and picking in the top spot of the 2014 NFL Draft, but now, they are 2-0 after another runaway victory. It is definitely fair to reconcile their record against their early schedule (bleak at best), but Houston looks like a real, live NFL team again, and that gives the rest of the unit some credence.

However, the Jacksonville Jaguars are in a class with only the Oakland Raiders at the very bottom of the league, and they certainly bring the rest of the division down. The Jags were non-competitive against a less than stellar Washington team this week, and after their utter collapse against Philadelphia in the opener, things are getting ugly in north Florida, especially with regard to their running game (I’m looking at you, Toby Gerhart).

Lastly, the Tennessee Titans are… the Tennessee Titans. They created a great deal of excitement with an impressive win in week one, but erased that momentum during a lopsided defeat to the reeling Cowboys on Sunday, and Jake Locker is the picture of “variance” at the quarterback position. Tennessee may very well be a team that wins 8-to-9 games, but they’ll be up and down in producing that mark, and they can’t be trusted.
