There are few shows neither radio or television that has a stronger following than The Howard Stern Show, as the man has built a hundred million dollar empire preaching to and entertaining the average Joe in everyone. Part of what makes Stern’s shows so great is that he incorporates random characters he’s come across in his decades in radio, and he includes them in his shows from time to time.

Some of these characters are fictional or overplayed but all of them are grounded in reality and not fictionalized by the show. One of the most entertaining and beloved guest characters that Stern has ever had is a 3-foot tall man named Eric, whom Stern dubbed Eric the Actor since he was constantly trying to break into Hollywood but was always unsuccessful.

Stern announced on Sunday afternoon that Eric the Actor, real name Eric Lynch, had died at the age of 39.

There was a rather quick reaction to the death of a man everyone had always heard on the show but rarely ever seen.

While he may have been the butt of more than a few Stern jokes, it’s clear from the reaction to his death that even the smallest member of the Stern family — in size or stature — had the greatest of impacts on the show’s fan base.
