Rookie quarterbacks get tired of waiting, finally make debut

After getting tired of hearing everything about fellow rookie quarterback Derek Carr, both Teddy Bridgewater and Jaguars’ Blake Bortles made their regular season debut in their respective games.

Bridgewater’s prayers for Matt Cassel to get hurt so he can play were answered in the Vikes loss to New Orleans Sunday.  Bridgewater led Minnesota on a scoring drive in his first career action, forcing Minnesota to consider a change at quarterback because they’re fearful that if they bench him next week for Cassel, that the Vikes coaching staff and ownership will become annoyed with Teddy bragging about his scoring drive off of the bench.

Elsewhere in the team currently known as Jacksonville, the third overall pick of the 2014 draft Blake Bortles threw his first two touchdowns against the Colts because he knows that if he can play well, he can get the hell out of Jacksonville while he still has a career.

Bortles was already named the starter for Jacksonville’s game next week against the Chargers because… it’s Jacksonville.

Both first-rounders Teddy Bridgewater and Blake Bortles made their regular season debuts on Sunday and both quarterbacks couldn’t help their team win as the Vikes lost to the Saints 20-9 and the Jaguars got routed by Indianapolis 44-17.

Bridgewater went 12-20 for 150 yards against New Orleans, completing his first two passes to Greg Jennings for 10 yards, then to Matt Asiata for a 41-yard gain.

In the AFC, Bortles was handed the ball in the second half of the Jags 44-17 blowout loss against Indy, and tossed two touchdown passes on a 14-for-24 performance for 223 yards.  He also threw his first two career interceptions against the Colts in his debut.

Jacksonville went into halftime down 30-0 after starter Chad Henne was just 4-for-7 for all of 33 yards before head coach Gus Bradley made the switch.

“It was definitely good to go out there and not be like, ‘Oh my God, what am I doing here?’” Bortles said after the game.  “It was good to get out there and get that experience.”

Both Bridgewater and Bortles have been named their teams’ starters for next week and going forward.
