Lions tame the Jets; Geno, Richardson take frustrations out on fans because “it’s their fault we suck”

Obviously when a team loses a game that they could’ve won, it’s the fans fault.  The Jets Geno Smith and Sheldon Richardson did their rightful duty as professional athletes in New York and took their frustrations out on the fans following their 24-17 loss to Detroit Sunday. “Jets fans think they know football, they don’t know a damn thing,” Richardson said after the game.  “Geno is the best quarterback this team has ever had.  Period.  I believe in Geno.” “It’s the fans fault we suck right now.” Smith went off on the fans, telling them “F*** you” as he walked into the locker room after the loss.  One Jets fan said, “We have Michael Vick, and we’re playing this joke Geno?  I’m tired of drinking my life away to this garbage team.”

If the loss wasn’t bad enough for Geno, then the events after the loss didn’t help. Following Gang Green’s 24-17 loss to Detroit Sunday, Jets quarterback Geno Smith was caught on videotape by WCBS 2 New York yelling an F-bomb out of frustration to a heckler as he walked back to the Jets locker room at MetLife Stadium.

“Before we start this off, first of all I want to apologize if any kids saw me saying any negative remarks walking off the field,” Smith said in his postgame presser.  “I kind of let my temper get the best of me in that situation, and it’s a part of my learning process.”

Smith was just 17 of 33 passing on the day for 209 yards with a touchdown to Eric Decker but also threw an interception and lost a fumble, marking his seventh turnover in four games.

The Jets have dropped three straight games since defeating Oakland in the season opener and with Geno’s struggles, Jets fans have been calling for Michael Vick to come in and be the savior.

Head coach Rex Ryan announced in his presser that Smith will remain the starter next Sunday at San Diego.

The Jets did everything they can to stay in the game after trailing 17-3 following a touchdown to Lion’s rookie tight end Eric Ebron with 27 seconds left in the half. Smith threw his lone touchdown to Decker in their first possession of the second half, capping an 11-play, 4:39 drive to bring the Jets within seven at 17-10.

The Jets kept the game within seven, 24-17, after Chris Johnson’s 35-yard dash to the end zone late in the fourth.

However New York went three-and-out on their last possession with just over four minutes left, and let Detroit run the clock out for the loss.

“The important thing is that I get my guys rallied up and get them ready to go next week because next week is the most important game for us,” Smith added.

The Jets are 1-3 for the first time in Rex Ryan’s six-year tenure as the head coach.  Whether or not Ryan makes a move is yet to be seen, but what is being seen is the pressure that Smith is feeling with his team now at 1-3. Should the struggles continue, it could be safe to say that Vick could (or should) takeover as the starter to save the season (and a few jobs).
