LOSER: New Orleans Saints and Defensive Coordinator Rob Ryan

Last season the New Orleans Saints – a team with a defense that was bad for most the last decade – looked like it was finally on solid ground as they ended up as the No. 4 total defense in the NFL for 2013.

When they added safety Jairus Byrd, we thought they were on their way to being among the best defenses in the league and, given how potent the offense is year-to-year, a lock for a division win and a playoff run.

So far it seems like all of that was a huge illusion.

To date their defense is ranked No 29 overall, No. 28 against the pass and No. 21 against the run.

Defensive coordinator Rob Ryan was embarrassed by the Cowboys a year after everyone thought they had been crazy to ever let him go for Monte Kiffin.

Meanwhile the offense has been out-gunned in three out of four games including by the well-known offense in Cleveland.

It’s early, and the Saints can get back on track but right now it’s been a brutal first month of games.
