The Bucks acquired the former Kentucky Wildcats’ star from the Pistons to the Bucks in the Brandon Jennings sign-and-trade last summer. The Pistons selected Knight with the eighth-overall pick of the 2011 NBA Draft.
According to reports, the Bucks are looking to extend Knight before the October 31 deadline – if he doesn’t sign by then, he will become a restricted free agent in 2015. His coach, Jason Kidd, also made it clear they want him back.
“He’s a piece we want here,” Bucks coach Jason Kidd said Wednesday, referring to Knight via Charles F. Gardner of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “You talk about his work ethic, the way he approaches the game, he’s a professional, on and off the court.
“I’m not here to get in the way of anyone’s success. I want everyone to have the ultimate goal of winning and being financially set. Our job as coaches is to help them achieve that goal.”
Gardner pointed out the four-year, $32 million offer sheet the Bucks signed Jeff Teague to as a potential deal for Knight.
Knight averaged 17.9 points, 4.9 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 42.2% from the field, 32.5% from beyond the arc and 80.2% from the charity stripe. He’s averaged 14.7 points, 4.3 assists, 3.3 rebounds and 0.8 steals per game while shooting 41.5% from the field, 35.6% from three and 77.1% from the free throw line in his three-year career.
