Arizona Cardinals (3-0): Pretenders
The Arizona Cardinals are putting their faith in the defense. That defense ranks second in points allowed and fifth in total yards allowed. This defense is an elite NFL defense.
The offense on the other hand…
This offense is doing the defense no favors. It looks like a team that has its starter on the shelf (not that Carson Palmer can do much better). It ranks 19th in points scored, 16th in passing yards, 21st in rushing yards and 23rd in overall yards gained.
Somehow through it all, the Cardinals continue to win. The reason for it is all because of the defense.
This is not a recipe for success. There will be too many games in which the defense has to be flawless for the Cardinals to win. They travel to Denver this week, and have games against the Eagles San Francisco and two against the Seahawks.
If the Cardinals somehow get their offense going, it will give the defense a big boost. It is frustrating for a defense to make a big play, only to see the offense have a three and out.
The Cardinals were 10-6 last year and beat the Seahawks at home, but don’t expect the same this season. They will be competitive because of their defense, but in the end they just don’t have any offense to put them over the top. Enjoy first place while you’re there, though.
