No. 20-16

20. Austin Davis – St. Louis Rams – previously unranked

I simply can’t believe that I have Austin Davis rated this high. It may not last, but his numbers simply can’t be ignored. Davis is averaging 67.8% completions, 282.2 yards per game, 7.9 yards per attempt, and has 6 TDs to only 3 interceptions. Those numbers are actually better than those of the next ten QBs on this list. I’m not sure he can keep this up, but in the mean time he deserves this spot on the list.

19. Andy Dalton – Cincinnati Bengals – previously no. 17

I’m not an Andy Dalton fan, so I apologize to Bengals fans if you think he deserves to be higher. Here’s the bottom line, the Bengals have a great team and I like Hue Jackson as their offensive coordinator, but I think Cincy would be even better if any of the 18 QBs above Dalton on this list were their QB.

18. Nick Foles – Philadelphia Eagles – previously no. 14

Nick Foles is putting up lots of yards and points, and that’s ultimately the goal of any QB. That having been said, I’m still giving more of the credit to Chip Kelly’s system than I am to Foles. Similar to Dalton in Cincy, I think you can make a strong case for Philly being a better team if they had one of the 17 QBs above Foles on this list.

17. Joe Flacco – Baltimore Ravens – previously no. 20

I wasn’t very high on Joe Flacco to start the season, but he’s gradually rising up the list. Flacco looked fantastic against the Panthers two weeks ago but was subsequently shut down against the Colts this last week. If Flacco could ever consistently perform at the level he did in the playoffs the year they won the Super Bowl he’d be a sure fire top ten QB, but he simply hasn’t been able to do that thus far.

16. Alex Smith – Kansas City Chiefs – previously no. 15

As a diehard KC fan I get to watch a lot of Alex Smith. Smith is the master of executing a game plan. When the game plan is good and plays to his strengths like in the Miami and New England games he looks great. When Andy Reid goes off the reservation and over thinks the play calling things don’t go so well. If Reid and Smith can get on the same page his numbers could take off as the season goes on.
