After Monta Ellis left the Golden State Warriors and spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, the former second round pick had all but lost his love for the game of basketball.

More from Dallas Mavericks

It was something Ellis freely admitted during a recent interview though stated when he joined the Dallas Mavericks, things changed. Just as quickly as Monta Ellis had grown tired of basketball, he was re-energized and ready to show the Dallas Mavericks why taking a chance on him was a smart move.

Now the Mississippi native hopes to stay with the Mavs for the remainder of his career and eventually retire with the franchise.

“When I first walked through the locker room I felt at home. Then after meeting the guys and certain people in the organization, really even welcomed me with warm arms. I said to myself I would like to retire as a Dallas Maverick.”

While Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban can come across a bit gruff and overly opinionated, finding a player who hasn’t loved playing for his franchise is nearly impossible. From the luxurious amenities to the constant winning ways, the Mavs have proven themselves to be one of the NBA’s elite franchises and it’s understandable why Monta Ellis would like to retire in Big D.

Of course, Ellis is still just 29-years-old and has plenty of good basketball left in his legs so retirement isn’t going to be an option for quite some time. Still, his future in Dallas seems to be up in the air as the shooting guard holds an $8 million dollar player option for the 2015-16 season. Obviously he’d like to cash in though could exercise the clause and wait for the 2016 offseason where he’ll stand to make much more money.
