Mayo was carted off during the team’s win against their AFC East rivals and the early indications were that it would be a season-ending injury for the Pro Bowl linebacker.
During the game, the Patriots also lost starting running back Stevan Ridley to a torn ACL and MCL that will keep him out for the remainder of the season in a costly win for the first place team in the AFC East.
Mayo was injured with the Patriots holding an early 7-0 lead over the Bills when he tried to tackle Bills running back Anthony Dixon.
The former 10th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, Mayo had 53 combined tackles and one sack this season for the Patriots. He was the 2008 Defensive Rookie of the Year and a two-time Pro Bowler who made his first All-Pro team in 2012.
