Stevan Ridley is out for the season after tearing his ACL and MCL in the New England Patriots win against the Buffalo Bills

The New England Patriots fears were realized on Monday afternoon when the results of an MRI for Stevan Ridley confirmed the Pats running back tore his ACL and his MCL and is out for the season, according to Mike Reiss.

Ridley has had his ups and downs in the Patriots backfield since he was drafted out of LSU in the fourth round of the 2011 NFL Draft, but was coming off his second 100-yard game of the season when he went down with the knee injury after 10 carries and 23 yards on Sunday in the win against Buffalo.

With Ridley out for the season, the Patriots will have to rely on Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden and rookie James White to shoulder the load for teh first place Patriots who are 4-2 on the year after their 37-22 win over their AFC East rival.

Ridley had 340 yards and two touchdowns on 94 carries this season as the team’s primary ball carrier.

Vereen is second on the team with 42 carries for 216 yards but has been more of a receiver out of the backfield during his time in New England, but will get a chance to carry the ball more considering Bolden only has 15 carries for 25 yards and White has three carries for 21 yards.

White could be an intriguing option as the rookie fourth rounder out of Wisconsin if he can prove to Bill Belichick that he is a trusted option with the ball in his hands.

The Patriots take on the New York Jets on Thursday so whoever steps up to fill the void with Ridley out will have a short week to get up to speed.
