7) NFC South

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a disaster. Lovie Smith’s group has now put together the two worst losses of the season, with a 56-14 defeat to the Atlanta Falcons (that was worse than the score indicated) followed by a 48-17 drubbing this week against Baltimore that was over in the first ten minutes. Tampa Bay does have a victory on the year, and it was on the road for good measure, but they are firmly entrenched in the league’s bottom three, and that hurts the division overall.

The rest of the division did not fare much better, as the Falcons dropped a home game by a somewhat lopsided margin while the Carolina Panthers were burned by ultra-conservative decision-making during what is likely to be the season’s only tie. New Orleans took the week off the lick their wounds, but right now, I’m not sure there is a team that is playing well in the entire division, and if the NFC South isn’t careful, they will continue their free fall into the “vaunted” top spot.
