Arizona Coyotes Dismantle Edmonton Oilers’ Poor Defense In Fourth Straight Loss
The Edmonton Oilers have got to step their game up, as they fall 7-4 to the Arizona Coyotes
The Edmonton Oilers are off to a disastrously rough start to the season, as they’ve advanced to an 0-3-1 record heading into their fifth game of the season.
In contrast, the Arizona Coyotes have begun to redeem themselves from a 6-2 defeat opening night in Glendale, AZ, as they take home their second consecutive win Wednesday night against the struggling Edmonton squad 7-4.

The Coyotes were led by forward Mikkel Boedker, who recorded his first career NHL hat trick and fifth goal in three games. His spectacular play falsely elevated the team’s overall performance, though, as Arizona head coach Dave Tippett was as critical of his team’s overall performance as Edmonton Oilers head coach Dallas Eakins was complimentary of his.
According to Eakins, the positive he can take away from his team’s 13 goals against in less than two days was that his team “stuck together on the bench”, per NBC Pro Hockey Talk. Because, you know- when you stick together on the bench, who cares that you have no defensive play to speak of?
In contrast, Tippett suggested that his team won only due to the even poorer performance by Edmonton, proclaiming that his skaters looked “sloppy” in the post-game press conference. Both his netminder, Mike Smith, and Edmonton goaltender Ben Scrivens, admitted to their need to step it up- neither goaltender has a SV% over .850 for the first stretch of the season.
Both teams have a brief break before their next match, with Edmonton playing the Vancouver Canucks on Friday night and Arizona hosting the Florida Panthers on Saturday. Hopefully, one of these two teams can settle into a rhythm- or the playoffs will see five Central Division appearances once more.
