Cam Newton – Carolina Panthers

2014 Salary: $3,378,477

2015 Status: $14,666,666

Newton will still be under contract for the 2015 season, so there’s a chance he wont sign the massive extension that he’s going to get for another year. With the franchise tag available the year after, the Panthers don’t have to act out of desperation.

On the other hand, Newton is going to be getting a large pay raise anyways as part of his rookie contract. The Panthers can actually give Newton a massive contract this offseason, and decrease his 2015 salary cap number in the process.

Considering that option locks up the team’s most important player and provides spending flexibility to use elsewhere on the roster, it is reasonable to believe that Newton will get a new deal in the offseason.
