Pretty much every hockey fan remembers the infamous ‘butt goal’ scored by Mike Smith of the Arizona Coyotes against the Buffalo Sabres in December of 2013, in which Smith inadvertently backed up into his own net with the puck lodged in the seat of his pants. The Coyotes blew a 1-0 lead with the goal, and eventually fell to the disastrous Buffalo squad. It was awful, but hilarious.
This butt goal is at least a fond memory for the scorer-
During the New York Rangers game against the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday night, forward Rick Nash opened up the scoring with a ‘butt goal’ of his own. Only this time, it didn’t put his team down- it actually put them up 1-0.
If anything, the Rangers deserve to win for this. One hundred percent. And I deserve a copy of whatever workout tape Nash has been using, because I’d like to have a goal-scoring butt, if you know what I mean. Ahem.
To be fair to netminder Jonas Gustavsson, what were the odds of that happening? Next to none, that’s what they were.
