Washington (3-6)

It’s way too early to write off Robert Griffin III based on one game when he was shaking the rust off, but he definitely struggled at times against Minnesota.

I wrote about this Monday, and as I said then, it’s not all on Griffin. There is plenty of blame to go around in terms of playcalling and execution by the team as a whole. Coach Jay Gruden has to find a way to tighten things up for his team coming out of the bye if he has any hope of making the post-season, unlikely though that may seem.

They get what should be an easy win against Tampa Bay in Week 11, but San Francisco, Indianapolis (both on the road) and St. Louis will be hard to win. Then they finish the season with three straight division games, which we all know will be tough.

The team might want to try and find ways for the run game to become effective again and take the pressure off Griffin for the stretch. They might also want to fix the secondary so the offense can have better field position.

The most frustrating thing right now is, three years into his career we’ve got no clear view of what Griffin is as a quarterback. Some will point to guys like Sam Bradford and say “if he’s banged up this much it isn’t worth it” but I remind fans of Matt Stafford, who after being hurt for the better part of three years has become an excellent franchise quarterback.

Which is Griffin? We’ll be spending part of the last seven games trying to puzzle that out.
