WhatsApp has long been a go to for texting conversations in which users would rather not use their precious phone text messages (for those of you still on limited texting plans), as well as people looking to avoid international charges. We’ve all experienced that person who responds saying that the “just” go the message. Now, with the newest upgrade to WahtsApp, you’ll actually know when someone looked at your important message.

New double blue check marks will be introduced as a way to tell users exactly when something has been viewed by the recipient. Previously, a single gray check mark meant that the message was successfully sent. Two gray check marks signified that the message was successfully delivered.

Should you be interested in seeing exactly when the message was delivered and when it was read, holding down on the message will show off time stamps featuring that information.

Users can get around this new feature if they see your message through a push notification, and are able to view it without opening the application itself.

If you remember correctly, Facebook purchased WhatsApp for $19 billion and acquired its 600 million users. WhatsApp has also introduced a small yearly fee to use the service.

This is a smart move by WhatsApp. The functionality is already present amongst many texting services, and while many people have read receipts turned off, it is always nice to know what type of time frame is appropriate to follow up on. Let us know what you think WhatsApp users.
