People can find the positive in anything.
Even when you are forced to lose your leg in a bombing.
Rebekah DiMartino, 27, was injured in the Boston Marathon bombing. During the marathon, she was with her former boyfriend and son and a bomb exploded extremely close to the bombing.
DiMartino was the most badly injured of the three and has had several operations since the injury.
She finally decided she wanted her leg amputated.
‘I told people that my leg hasn’t been my leg since the bomb happened. It may still be attached, but it isn’t mine,’ DiMartino said via Oliver Wheaton of Metro.co.uk.
After making the decision, DiMartino decided to throw her leg a going away part. Before getting the operation done, she wrote “it’s not you, it’s me.”
She posted a lengthy facebook message to say good-bye.
“I’m sure it won’t come as a shock to you when I say that we’ve grown apart. The love that we once had has dwindled, and this relationship has become a real burden on my life,” she wrote.
“I love you. I really do. But I think I need to start on the next leg of my journey. So with that said, I have enclosed a gift certificate that I hope you will use. Go get yourself one last pedicure on me and enjoy it because tomorrow … I will be cutting you out of my life for good.
“Wishing you the best wherever you end up, Rebekah.”
DiMartino has a fantastic attitude for someone that went through such a traumatic event and has had so much trouble, going through so many surgeries, since the bombing.
You have to admire both her spirit and courage.
“The fact that I was given a second chance at life that day is something that I will never again take for granted,” she said via the Sydney Morning Herald.
“If I have to lose my leg in that process, so be it, because I’m still here.”
