The 122nd Boston Marathon will be run today, but when will it start and where can you watch the action online?

For the 122nd time, the Boston Marathon will be run on Monday through the heart of downtown Boston. It’s Patriot’s Day, which means the Red Sox will be in action at the same time and the city of Boston will be alive like no other year on the calendar.

Of course, it’s impossible to think about the Boston Marathon without thinking about the bombing that took place back in 2012. It’s hard to believe that five years have passed since the tragedy, but Boston is as strong as ever.

On Sunday afternoon, a memorial was held — including a moment of silence at 2:49pm — to honor the victims who lost their lives that day. The Red Sox also honored the victims and heroes of that day at Fenway Park on Sunday, and there will likely be more of that during Monday’s afternoon game.

As for the Marathon itself, people actually win money for running. You have to finish in the Top 15 — which means you’re one of the 15 best runners in the world — but there’s a payout if you do. Here’s the breakdown:

  • First: $150,000
  • Second: $75,000
  • Third: $40,000
  • Fourth: $25,000
  • Fifth: $15,000
  • Sixth: $12,000
  • Seventh: $9,000
  • Eighth: $7,400
  • Ninth: $5,700
  • 10th: $4,200
  • 11th: $2,600
  • 12th: $2,100
  • 13th: $1,800
  • 14th: $1,700
  • 15th: $1,500
