The Edmonton Oilers were supposed to be getting better with a cadre of young, high draft picks. But after their sixth straight loss Saturday, the fans are restless.

The young Edmonton Oilers were supposed to be starting to turn the corner after eight straight seasons missing the playoffs and five straight losing years.

It’s not working out that way.

The Oilers fell to the bottom of the NHL Saturday night with their sixth straight loss, a lifeless 7-1 thrashing at home at the hands of the Chicago Blackhawks.

Fans at Rexall Place let the Oilers have it as they left the ice after the crushing loss:

The six straight losses have left Edmonton at 6-13-2, the worst record in the league, and the Oilers have a league-worst minus-25 goal differential and their 74 goals allowed are the most in the NHL.

There were rumors the Oilers were going to fire coach Dallas Eakins on Sunday. In his second season, Eakins has led Edmonton to a 35-57-11 record.

The 7-1 loss came after Eakins unloaded on his team for almost eight minutes at the team’s morning skate Saturday, according to the Edmonton Journal.

Eakins is Edmonton’s fifth coach since the team last made the playoffs—a run to the Stanley Cup Final as a No. 8 seed in 2006.

The Oilers are 0-10-1 against Western Conference rivals and during their losing streak, they have been outscored 11-0 in the first period and have trailed 2-0 at some point in each game.
