Before the NFL draft the Browns were known to be searching for a receiver to help quarterback Brian Hoyer, and it seemed that Sammy Watkins out of Clemson would be the one they were most looking to get.
Everyone thought that this would happen, even the guy himself, who said the following to Cleveland reporters before the Bills take on the Browns Sunday:
"“I met with [G.M. Ray Farmer] probably a week before the combine, so yeah, in my head I thought I was going to get drafted there because Josh Gordon got into some trouble.”"
However, the Bills came in and moved up to the Browns’ spot and took him instead, but Sammy Watkins doesn’t care in the end. In fact, he said it makes him feel quite special.
"“Being a first-round pick and having someone come up and get you, that’s the best feeling ever,” Watkins said. “Having someone trust you and think that you’re good enough to come up and get."
The Bills reached for a guy who has helped the team out a lot, brining in 48 catches for over 680 yards and five touchdowns on the year. However many rookie wideouts have proved to be worth their respective picks this year as Watkins stats are only good enough to be tied for sixth in catches amongst rookies and has been outshined by guys like Mike Evans and Odell Beckham Jr.
