As a player on the Oakland A’s, you know your time in the Bay Area may be limited, especially once you achieve stardom.

For infielder Josh Donaldson, that was something he unfortunately realized earlier this week as the All-Star who was coming off his best season as a professional was sent to the Toronto Blue Jays in a trade for fellow infielder Brett Lawrie.

Donaldson seemed to be a poster child for what the Oakland A’s pride themselves on – hard work and dedication, despite not being an overly popular name to most. Still, feeling as if Donaldson would eventually cost too much money in arbitration the Oakland A’s decided to move on.

Now the veteran will head to the American League East where he’ll battle with some of MLB’s powerhouse teams, though wanted to thank Oakland A’s faithful before his departure.

While Josh Donaldson is likely happy to be going to a stable situation, you have to imagine there’s some disappointment as the Oakland A’s are a bit of a unique breed and that’s not something he’ll continue to be a part of. Still, the “small market” Athletics appear to be a revolving door for any player with the smallest hint of talent and the continued rebuilding is wearing thin on the fan base.

It’s not that fans of the A’s don’t expect deals to happen, but losing a player that was beloved as Josh Donaldson has to sting just that much more.

All that said, their return for Donaldson in the trade wasn’t too shabby but the frustration in Oakland is well understood and rightfully so.
