Rangers Kevin Klein Loses Part Of Ear, Plays On And Scores Game Winner In OT

New York Rangers defenseman Kevin Klein lost part of his ear against the Pittsburgh Penguins, had it sewn back on and scored the game-winner in over time.

While playing the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday night, Klein was the victim of a high-stick from Zach Sill that ripped off part of his ear. He left the ice with blood flowing from his ear and had to get it sewn back on.

Then, after the Penguins scored two-goals within 24 seconds late in the game to force overtime, Klein scored the game-winner.

“I am getting a lot of heat because I’m not using him on the power play,” Rangers coach Alain Vigneault said, via Fox Sports. “That is the second time he has come up real big for us in overtime.
“Good for him. He lost a piece of his ear, and they sewed it back. Say what you want about hockey players, but they are tough.”

This has to be some kind of hockey hat-trick right, like the one named after Gordie Howe? Lose body part, reattach body part, score goal. Maybe they’ll name it after Klein.

In the mean time, Klein wasn’t as talkative simply adding: “It might have hit their D-man in front. I was just trying to get it by. When it went in, I was pretty happy.”
