Fantasy Basketball: Top Ten Fantasy Centers

facebooktwitterreddit

I hope you have enjoyed reading these lists as much as I have enjoyed bringing them to you. Now it is time to put out my top 10 centers for fantasy basketball purposes. As always the goal here is to try and shoot for value across the different formats, but for most purposes I will lean towards points leagues value.

We have one goal here at Fantasy CPR and that is to help lead you to winning as many fantasy leagues as you can. We hope that these lists will help you to identify value in players so that you can make better decisions in trades, waiver pickups, drafts and all things associated with fantasy sports. As always you can hit us up on Twitter @FantasyCPR with all your questions for fantasy and we will get back to you as quickly as we can.

So lets get going and identify the top 10 fantasy centers that you can pursue to add to your future fantasy champion basketball team. As a reminder the qualifier is for players who have ‘center’ as their primary position in ESPN.com leagues, not just center eligible guys. I hope that you already have a few of these guys on your roster as sometimes owners can be reluctant to part with top performers.

In case you have missed the previous posts, they can be found here:

142. Gortat has been a steady producer over the last few seasons and has gotten off to a bit of a slow start. I really struggled over who to put at the #10 spot here. It was between Gortat, Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan. All three players are excellent and can serve your purposes for a starting fantasy center. In cats leagues you might lean more toward Chandler or Jordan as they are strong defensive players who block shots. But I feel in an overall sense that Gortat just offered a bit of a higher offensive ceiling.. Center. Washington Wizards. Marcin Gortat. 10. player

9. player. 24. What is there not to love about Jo-No. He is an excellent all-around player who can defend most anyone on the court and do it well. Noah has certianly got off to a slow start, and most analysts blame it on the signing of Pau Gasol. This may somewhat be the case, but I believe that as this Bulls team matures over the season and really learns how to play with each other that Noah’s numbers will really pick back up fairly close to what they were last season.. Center. Chicago Bulls. Joakim Noah

Vucevic, as a player, has demonstrated the raw talent to be in the top 4 or 5 of this list. However, his injury history is really becoming a concern for me lately. He is currently on a 6 game skid of sitting out of the lineup. That is enough to cost you two victories in a H2H league. These are the kinds of things that you have to be mindful of as the season rolls along. If you don’t manage your team when these kinds of things come up, you will find yourself slipping slowly out of contention. Sometimes these things serve as nice buy-low opportunities, but sometimes when a player like Vucevic comes back and plays a decent game or two it can serve as a sell-high opportunity. As of right now, I am on the fence, and as always if you can get a deal that you love and feel good about in your gut, then I can argue with you for whatever side you choose.. Center. Orlando Magic. Nikola Vucevic. 8. player. 38

Next: Where is Al Horford on this list?

125. Al Horford finds himself all the way up to #7 on this list for me with the ability to continue to climb the list. I don’t expect Horford to take over the top spot on this list, but he certainly has the talent to find himself in the top 5. Horford is already rounding into form as he plays himself into shape after missing most of last season with a torn pectoral muscle. If you were paying attention and bought Horford low as I <a href=. Center. Atlanta Hawks. Al Horford. 7. player

Detroit Pistons. Andre Drummond. 6. player. 64. Andre Drummond is a super talented, freakish athlete that fantasy ballers everywhere love. The problem with a player like that is that he often becomes crazily over-valued and impossible to trade for. The good news is if you find a player like this on your roster, you can wait until Drummond fires off one or two games in a row with those huge numbers and sell him for twice the value that he is going to bring to your team the rest of the season. I, like most others, love me some Andre Drummond and am excited about what the future holds for him. With that said, in order for him to reach that potential, some things are going to have to happen that we don’t have time to unpack here. So for now, hold tight with Drummond right here and if you get word of the Pistons trading Greg Monroe or Josh Smith away then hit your league up as fast as you can and see if you can buy Drummond.. Center

170. Big Al finds himself at the #5 spot on my list. Al is nothing but a pretty consistent contributor. Not a tremendous amount of upside here, but Jefferson is certainly no slouch. Basically, you know what you are going to get out of Big Al. So plant him in your line-ups with confidence and watch your fantasy team prosper because of it.. Center. Charlotte Hornets. Al Jefferson. 5. player

4. player. 38. The fourth spot on this list belongs to none other than Chris Bosh. DinoBosh as I like to call him is one of my least favorite players to own in fantasy, and to be honest I don’t even know why. I think it is just becuase he is pretty soft and kind of looks like he belongs in the WNBA to me. One of my all-time favorite jabs was a few years back when I heard Shaquille O’Neal call him the RuPaul of big men. I tend to agree with Shaq, but with no one else as reliable in a Heat uniform this year, Bosh finds himself pushing out some of those numbers similar to his Raptors days before hooking up with what I always liked to call two and a half men.. Center. Miami Heat. Chris Bosh

Nov 26, 2014; Houston, TX, USA; Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins (15) prepares to shoot the ball during the fourth quarter against the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center. The Rockets won 102-89. Mandatory Credit: Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The younger Gasol brother has really stepped up to the plate and delivered in a big way for the Grizzlies. Currently, Gasol finds himself with averges of nearly 20 points a game, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Those are solid numbers when you also throw in a steal and nearly 2 blocks a game for good measure. All this talent and I still think the big man has some room to improve.. Center. Memphis Grizzlies. Marc Gasol. 3. player. 211

player. 169. Dwight Howard has long been considered one of the best centers to own in fantasy sports. As with a few of these guys, those of you in cats or roto leagues that include free throw % will avoid him for obvious reasons though. In any other league Howard will find himself as a locked in top 2 center based on the fact that he easily has the talent to lock in 20-10 averages while contributing across the board. Since finding himself on the same roster with James Harden, Howard has had trouble staying consistent with those averages, but remains a huge force none the less.. Center. Houston Rockets. Dwight Howard. 2

Sacremento Kings. DeMarcus Cousins. 1. player. 67. The hot-headed Cousins has often found himself in the doghouse of many of Sacremento’s different coaches over the last few years and the subject of different trade rumors based on the fact that Kings’ management might be disenfrachised with the often lamented big man. However, the Kings have stayed the course and seem to be reaping the benefits of believing in this young, vastly talented ball player. Fantasy owners may find themselves in a similar position. If that is the case, I do not recommend selling on Cousins. This may be the season that he finally avoids being suspended, and regardless of the fact that he is battling whatever virus they claim he has, I don’t believe you will find any better production for your fantasy team..
