On Saturday night, James Harden of the Houston Rockets had three separate attempts to secure himself a triple-double by grabbing a single rebound.
The All-Star was crunched for time as there were only a handful of possessions left in the game but Harden seemed determined to grab himself a board. His first attempt wasn’t successful but on his second, it seemed as if Harden was going to bring down the ball and secure the rock.
Only problem? Houston Rockets teammate Troy Daniels either missed the memo or wasn’t aware Harden was standing right next to him and he went up for the rebound instead.
Everybody in the arena knew what was at stake, except for Daniels, as the crowd erupted in dismay once the backup guard messed up Harden’s opportunity for the triple-double.
Thankfully Harden would get one last chance to grab his tenth and final rebound as the Denver Nuggets’ Kenneth Faried shot an airball as the clock expired. There was some question in regards to Faried getting the shot off in time, but the scorekeeper at the Houston Rockets game credited Harden with the board.
It’s possible the league may look to review the stat to see if it did indeed take place during regulation, though a frame-by-frame analysis seems to suggest James Harden was able to grab the ball just moments before the final buzzer sounded.
