No. 28-25

28. Geno Smith – New York Jets – Power Ranking Score: 141.6 (+3)

Geno Smith is another QB that gets a little boost in his ranking thanks to the injuries/issues of some other teams this week in the NFL. It’s starting to look like Geno may be running out of time in New York. There is a little talent there, but a new head coach or GM is likely to want to bring in his own guy to lead the offense. At this point getting out of the spotlight of the Big Apple might be in Geno’s best interest.

27. Josh McCown – Tampa Bay Buccaneers – Power Ranking Score: 161.9 (+3)

There was a point earlier in the season when it looked like McCown might be able to be a mid-tier QB that could effectively get the ball to his big play WRs, but as the season winds down it’s clear that McCown is not a starting caliber QB. His accuracy percentage is consistently one of the worst in the NFL. McCown is a good back up to have on your roster, but that’s about it.

26. Charlie Whitehurst – Tennessee Titans – Power Ranking Score: 212.4

Give Charlie Whitehurst a little credit. On a team that has tried to make both Jake Locker and Zach Mettenberger their future starter, Whitehurst has done a respectable job filling in when both men have been unavailable. His Power Ranking Score actually warrants being ranked in the upper teens, but his small sample size combined with not quite passing the eye test have him ranked here at number 26.

25. Derek Carr – Oakland Raiders – Power Ranking Score: 166.6 (+2)

On one hand, Derek Carr deserves a lot of credit for sticking it out in his rookie season on a very bad team. He’s done a good job of avoiding sacks and not making a ton of turnovers like rookie QBs often can. On the other hand, his accuracy still shows a lot of room for improvement. It goes without saying that Carr has earned the right to make those improvements, hopefully with an improved supporting cast.
