AFC Playoff Cheat Sheet
By CM Towle
Several AFC playoff and seeding scenarios exist depending on the outcome of the Week 17 games.
There’s a few set results in the AFC scene, but plenty remains undecided as we head into Week 17. Fortunately, someone came up with a pretty handy AFC playoff and seeding cheat sheet.
The New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts have their spots set, with New England grabbing the number one seed no matter what happens and the Colts have the number four. The Denver Broncos are pretty close to having the number two seed wrapped up, but there are a few scenarios where they could lose it and give it over to the Cincinnati Bengals, dropping them to third.

In all those scenarios, the Oakland Raiders would need to beat the Broncos and the Bengals would have to win their game over the Pittsburgh Steelers, which also gives them the division. However, the Raiders beating the Broncos seems pretty unlikely unless Peyton Manning is ailing more than he lets on, and even then it’s a tall order.
The Steelers are primed for the third or fifth seed, but they only get the third if they beat the Bengals and thus win the division. Otherwise it’s the fifth. The Houston Texans and Kansas City Chiefs have the narrowest scenarios, followed by the Baltimore Ravens and the San Diego Chargers. All these teams can only get the sixth seed.
The Ravens need to win their last game against the Cleveland Browns and they need the Chiefs to beat the Chargers. If the Chargers win they’re in. The Chiefs need a win, plus a win from the Browns and Jaguars. The Texans get in if they win and the Browns and Chiefs win.
