All 30 NBA Franchises Statistically Ranked By All-Time Greatness
By Daniel
25. Toronto Raptors: 0.52 Points
Established In the NBA: 1995
Former Cities/Names: N/A
Greatest Player In Team History: Vince Carter
The Raptors, Canada’s only current NBA franchise, has seen some success in its 19 years in the league. Two times the Raptors have won their division but they’ve failed to go further than that, yet. Toronto can’t feel too bad about its position on this list considering their age. They haven’t had quite as much time to rack up points as others, but then again they haven’t been particularly great.
24. Cleveland Cavaliers: 0.56 Points
Established In the NBA: 1970
Former Cities/Names: N/A
Greatest Player In Team History: LeBron James
The Cavaliers have been in the NBA for 44 years, much longer than the Raptors (ranked just behind them). Yet they have amassed just 0.56 points per year (or success per year). The team has won its division three times and won one conference title (thanks to LeBron James), but still haven’t claimed an NBA championship. Will King James change that and lead the Cavs to a title in the near future? If he does this franchise will certainly increase its all-time ranking.
23. Sacramento Kings: 0.60 Points
Established In the NBA: 1948
Former Cities/Names: Rochester Royals, Cincinnati Royals, Omaha-Kansas City Kings, Kansas City Kings
Greatest Player In Team History: Chris Webber
The Sacramento Kings come in just ahead of the Cavaliers on the all-time list by averaging 0.60 points per year under this point system. They have won three division championships, one conference championship and won the NBA finals once as well. But the fact that they’ve been in the NBA for 66 years is what has them so low on this list. They are the lowest ranked team that has won an NBA championship because of their overall lack of consistency.
22. Denver Nuggets: 0.92 Points
Established In the NBA: 1976
Former Cities/Names: N/A
Greatest Player In Team History: Alex English
The Nuggets come in a bit higher than some may have anticipated because they’ve won a relatively impressive seven division championships in their 38 year history in the NBA. The reason why they aren’t ranked higher is because they’ve never won a conference or league championship. Denver will need to add a championship to its resume if it wants to significantly climb this list someday.
20. (TIE) Brooklyn Nets: 1.05 Points
Established In the NBA: 1976
Former Cities/Names: New York Nets, New Jersey Nets
Greatest Player In Team History: Jason Kidd
The Brooklyn Nets, formerly of New Jersey, have yet to win a league championship in their 38 years in the NBA. Although, they have won four division championships and two conference championships. Twice they’ve represented the Eastern Conference in the Finals, so it’s not like this franchise hasn’t experienced great success in the NBA. It just has yet to get over the top. We’ll see if their new home in Brooklyn, NY brings them more success.
