Panthers trade F Drew Short to Flames for F Corban Knight
The Panthers have traded Drew Shore to the Flames in exchange for Corban Knight.
Not a very ground-breaking trade, but a trade none the less.
According to NBCSN ProHockeyTalk, the Florida Panthers have traded forward Drew Shore to the Calgary Flames for forward Corban Knight. Coincidentally, this trade was completed just before the two teams would face-off against each other on Friday night.
Drew Shore did not suit up for the Flames, however.
Shore has recorded 8 goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 67 career NHL games with the Panthers. The former second round draft pick of the Panthers has had trouble cracking the Panthers lineup since making it to the NHL, and it’s been a frustrating process.

‘We tried to fit him into the mix here but we’ve been healthy and had a busy offseason signing [Dave] Bolland and [Derek] MacKenzie,’ said Panthers general manager Dale Tallon, as per the Miami Herald.
Tallon adds that with those additions in the off-season, the Panthers have become too deep at center and just did not have a place for Shore in their bottom six. Which is kind of funny to think about, because you don’t normally think about the Florida Panthers being too deep in anything.
So, they decided to ship him off to a team that would actually give him playing time. Enter the Calgary Flames, who are probably looking for some bottom six depth on their team.
In return, the Panthers received a player back who they actually originally drafted. Not only did the Panthers originally draft him, but he was drafted in the fifth round in the same year as Drew Shore. Forward Corban Knight is making his way back to the Panthers organization.
Knight has significantly less NHL experience than Shore. He never played in the NHL for the Panthers, as he made his NHL debut with the Flames last March and has appeared in only nine total NHL games, recording just one goal. However, he’s been a big producer in the AHL.
Knight has recorded 26 goals and 30 assists for 56 points in 92 AHL games over the past two seasons. So, he could still be a fairly decent bottom six depth forward for the Panthers down the road.
It seems like the main purpose of this trade was for the Panthers to do right by Drew Shore and send him some place where he would get playing time. In return, the Panthers didn’t want much, just a depth player who they were familiar with.
