Green Bay Packers: 5 biggest needs this offseason
By Evan Massey
1. Hire An Offensive Coordinator
Mike McCarthy has been loved by the Green Bay Packers and their fans for nine seasons now, but that love could be coming to an end after the disappointing loss to the Seattle Seahawks. He was absolutely awful at play-calling in the second half, and decided to kick field goals twice on fourth down at the Seattle one yard-line in the first half.
Those decisions were partially what cost the Packers the game, and sent them home early without heading on to the Super Bowl on February 1st.
Last time the Packers had an offensive coordinator, they won the Super Bowl. During the 2011 season, Joe Philbin was the offensive coordinator before leaving Green Bay that offseason to become the Miami Dolphins’ head coach. It may just be a coincidence, but it also might not be.
Philbin was the Packers’ offensive coordinator for four seasons, and they were number one in the NFL in yards and points scored every single year. McCarthy has had some success as the play-caller, but the team has also been extremely inconsistent. Green Bay needs to seriously consider bringing in an offensive coordinator to replace McCarthy in that capacity.
