2015 NFL Draft: 8 under-the-radar prospects to watch
Tye Smith, Cornerback – Towson Tigers
Defensive backs are generally at a premium, and if you can find one who would even be a good developmental project in the late rounds, it’s worth using a pick.
Coming out of a FCS program like Towson, few have seen or heard of Tye Smith but that could be to your team’s advantage. At 6’0 and 191 pounds, Smith has average size, so he’s not that big long cornerback that many teams are looking to take to match up against big wide receivers.
But Smith has great speed — a 4.40 to 4.51 40-yard dash — and has some natural skills at corner which can’t be taught. He was named to several FCS All-American teams, and has been invited to the NFL Scouting Combine.
Smith was a three-year starter at Towson who finished with six career interceptions, six forced fumbles and 26 passes defended.
