Round 1: OT Brandon Scherff

It isn’t the sexy pick by any means. Drafting an offensive tackle in the top-five isn’t a pick that will make fans jump off their seats, but the key for an NFL offense to succeed is to have a dominating offensive line. The Dallas Cowboys were a 12-4 football team this season and the main reason why was because of their vaunted offensive line. Since 2011, the Cowboys have spent three of their four first-round picks on offensive linemen and it paid off big-time in 2014.

After drafting their guy in Carr last year, for him to develop and maximize his potential, the Raiders need to beef up their offensive line and they will have the ability to do that by drafting a guy like Brandon Scherff. Out of Iowa, Scherff is a mauling tackle who is athletic enough to rotate and defend against pass rushers, but also strong enough and quick enough to seal the edge in the running game. Scherff would help out this offensive line tremendously.
