Wolves legend Kevin Garnett is headed back to Minnesota in exchange for Thaddeus Young.

It’s official: Kevin Garnett will return home to the Minnesota Timberwolves. Minutes before the NBA trade deadline, Garnett waved the no-trade clause and decided to circle back to Minnesota in exchange for Thaddeus Young, according to NBA.com’s David Aldridge.

The news comes two decades after the Wolves drafted KG out of high school in 1995. The power forward/center spent 12 seasons in Minnesota, rising to become one of the biggest powerhouses in the NBA. There he led the Wolves to eight-straight playoff appearances.

But frustrated with team’s stagnation, Garnett originally left Minnesota in search of a Championship title. In his first year with the Boston Celtics, he won a Championship ring.

In 2013, the Boston Celtics agreed to deal that traded KG, Paul Piece and Jason Terry to the Brooklyn Nets.

Now, Garnett is coming back to the Midwest where it all began.

But why do it?

Well, it’s not a bad deal for the Nets. For Minnesota, it’s almost entirely sentimental. The 38-year-old isn’t going to flip the script for the Timberwolves and carry them down the long road to the Championship. Nonetheless, he can shed some veteran knowledge on Andrew Wiggins and other youngsters on the roster.

It also leads one to consider his remarks in the past in which he said he might like to eventually buy the Minnesota Timerwolves. This move would facilitate that future ownership.

Also, Garnett said he didn’t want to leave in the middle of Nets season because he didn’t want to uproot his family in the middle of the season.

No doubt the Wolves icon will be received with a very warm welcome, wearing a bit more jewelry on his fingers than he left with.
