Boogie to the Raptors

It has been all drama in Sacramento since the rumors of hiring George Karl for the Kings head coaching position. Many players, including Demarcus Cousins, have expressed their dissatisfaction with this idea to the media.

If Cousins ultimately wants out, there is probably no better place for him than with a playoff team that needs that extra push down low to become a title contender. The first team that comes to mind is the Toronto Raptors.

The Raptors are in the middle of the playoff pack in the East. Talent-wise, they are just behind the Cleveland Cavaliers and Atlanta Hawks. There record is comparable to that of the Bulls, Wizards, and Bucks. One major criticism the Raptors have is they don’t have a strong post presence in center, Jonas Valanciunas. Averaging 12 points has been a huge stepping stone onto a great career for the Lithuanian big man. But for this season, if the Raptors are looking to compete with the best, they probably should upgrade at the center spot sending Valanciunas to the bench.

If the Raptors combine a big man like Tyler Hansborough or Patrick Patterson and a future draft pick this could be enough for the Kings to bite on a deal. After all, if their big man isn’t happy, then you might as well get something for him rather than nothing.

Right now may be the best time to trade Cousins. His stock is high and teams such as the Raptors could be title contenders if they add such a big name to their depth chart.

Although, if I was in a decision making position in Sacamento, I would probably get rid of George Karl before Cousins. Head coaches are more or less expendable in the NBA, while 6’11, 270 pound big men are not.

This deal is probably too fictitious to actually go through, but the idea of having Kyle Lowry run a pick and roll style offense with Cousins is so exhilarating that I couldn’t ignore the prospect. It kind of reminds me of John Stockton and Karl Malone to be honest. Please forgive me for trying to relive the 90’s with trade deals that won’t happen.
