Reggie Jackson to the Pistons

Reggie Jackson wants to be a starter. Averaging 12.4 points and 4.2 assists are typically good enough numbers in this league to get a chance at a starting spot. But with Russell Westbrook in the lineup, Jackson is not going to have much luck at finding a starting spot with the Thunder anytime soon.

Because of his dissatisfaction, trade rumors surrounding Jackson have been flying around the Oklahoma City Thunder as of late. He is young with room to improve, and has established himself as a solid point guard in an offense with one of the best scorers in the game today in Kevin Durant. Yet, even with so many upsides to trading for the young point guard, Jackson is still stuck in Oklahoma City.

Despite wanting to start for a team, the Detroit Pistons might be a good fit for Jackson. With the season-ending injury to Brandon Jennings, a starting point guard spot has opened up for the remainder of the 2015 season in Detroit.

The Pistons are full of young talent like Kyle Singler and Andre Drummond. So jumping right into the rebuilding process would be an easy transition. Even when Jennings comes back, he could transition to the 2-guard at any point or the Pistons could trade Jennings away as rumors have been suggesting in recent weeks.

The Pistons also have a chance at making statement this year in the playoffs. They have been a different team since they released forward, Josh Smith. Things have been quite grim in Detroit in years past. A small playoff run may be just the kick they need for their managers to speed up the rebuilding process and take a chance at a big free agent this summer.

If the Pistons want to make any actual deal for Jackson they would need to give away something of great value to the Thunder. After all, the Thunder are in the middle of an intense battle in the Western Conference to try and come out on top. Losing a backup point guard like Jackson could be devastating to their bench production. Which is why they would really need a huge package in return for Jackson this year.

So for now, Reggie Jackson will probably be stuck as the backup to Russell Westbrook in Oklahoma City. Until the summer at least when the Thunder can reevaluate their roster. Don’t be surprised if a deal resurfaces in the off season with the Pistons and Thunder.
