Brandon Jennings has injured his achilles and will be out indefinitely.

Just when things seemed like they would continue to get better and better, the world has come crashing down around the Detroit Pistons.

Detroit Pistons point guard Brandon Jennings went down with a scary injury against his former team in the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday. According to Bucks beat writer Gery Woelfel of the Racine Journal Times, Jennings has suffered an achilles injury and it doesn’t look pretty.

While the severity of Jennings’ injury has yet to be revealed by the Detroit Pistons medical staff, head coach Stan Van Gundy stated the point guard will be out for an ‘unseeable future’.

Jennings’ non-contact injury occurred in the third quarter of Pistons-Bucks while Jennings was defending an in-bounds pass to Brandon Knight.

Following the injury, Jennings was placed in a wheelchair and escorted out of the arena.

While there’s no specific time for an injury to occur for it to be a “good” one, the injury to Jennings’ achilles couldn’t have come at a worse time for the point guard. Since the decision was made by the Pistons to waive Josh Smith, the Pistons have been playing their best basketball of the Brandon Jennings era, partly due to Jennings playing the best basketball of his young career.

In his last 15 games, Jennings averaged 20.1 points on 43.6 percent shooting from the field (39.4 percent from three), 2.1 rebounds, 6.8 assists, and 1.2 steals, while posting a plus-minus of 6.9. Within that 15-game stretch, we’ve seen Jennings hit a game-winner over the San Antonio Spurs and Jennings deliver the league’s first 20-point, 20-assist game since Steve Nash did it six years ago.

As of now, the Detroit Pistons are 10th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 17-27, and have been winners of 6 of their last 10 games. With the Brooklyn Nets and Charlotte Hornets struggling, the Pistons could still sneak into the playoffs (only 2.5 games behind the Hornets), but it’s going to take a solid effort from backup point guard D.J. Augustin (averaging 8.6 points, 4.3 assists) to keep the Pistons afloat.

Expect more information on Jennings’ injury and recovery time tomorrow. Hopefully the point guard can return late in the season.
