Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Andrew Wiggins makes Harden look silly

Whenever people talk about Minnesota Timberwolves rookie Andrew Wiggins, they talk about his “upside,” his “raw skills,” his “potential.” Usually, it sounds mostly like nonsense.

Then you see a video like this.

James Harden should have just kept walking right off the court and gone home.

With all the talk about Harden’s terrible defense, I don’t think we’ve ever seen him look that bad. Although to be fair, that was mostly Wiggins’ work. He looked like he was playing an entirely different sport than Harden.

It looks like when one high school team has a player who’s a college recruit, and everyone else on the court is just a regular high school player. Except in this case it’s an NBA rookie up against one of the biggest stars in the league.

Of course, Harden got his revenge in the form of this devastating crossover on Ricky Rubio.

When people talk about a player like Wiggins showing “flashes of their true potential,” they’re talking about this. It’s not hard to envision Wiggins taking over the basketball world in a few years when you see the kind of stuff he can do. Maybe Kevin Garnett threw his phone down the toilet before the game, and he was finally able to concentrate without distractions.

Think Minnesota’s regretting that Kevin Love trade?

Depending on how things go with Cleveland this year, that might end up as one of the great what-ifs in basketball: whether the Cavs would have been better off in the long run with Wiggins rather than Love.

We’ll never really know. But I wouldn’t ask James Harden just now.
