Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers are an interesting option for Darnell Dockett as well. They have plenty of cap space, and they may be looking to add to their defensive line as they finished 15th in total defense in the 2014 season.

Fellow former Florida State defensive tackle Letroy Guion is the current nose tackle for the Packers, who play the same 3-4 defensive set that Arizona did. Guion had a decent season for Green Bay, finishing with 32 tackles and 3.5 sacks. Dockett could also be put on either end of the line as he is smaller that Guion and quicker to get to the quarterback as well.

Guion is currently a free agent, but the Green Bay Packers are reportedly working on a new deal for him to return in the Packer uniform next season. However, Guion was arrested for marijuana and gun charges in early February and that could play into whether or not the Packers choose to go with Guion or pursue a different route and maybe take a stab at someone like Dockett who has fallen out of the sky and into their lap.

The Packers may think they’re solid at the defensive line, but they may want Dockett to add some more explosiveness to the run-stop where they finished 23rd in the NFL last season. With Guion in legal trouble and the unlikely possibility of re-signing the struggling and prone-to-injury B.J. Raji, you could expect that the Packers look elsewhere for a defensive lineman. But you can’t expect that Green Bay will try to play next season without Guion, Raji or someone new. They have Khyri Thorton who was drafted last season, but it may not be the time to throw him in the mix with an already average d-line.
