4. DT Jordan Phillips

Tyrone Crawford played tremendously in his third season in the NFL. It took him awhile to get acclimated to the professional level as he didn’t play much in his rookie season and he tore his Achilles before in preseason of his second year. Although his stats might not indicate it, Crawford was one of the best defensive tackles in the league this past season and he did that without much help next to him.

It’s no secret that the Cowboys have to address the 1-technique defensive tackle position. Nick Hayden was awful in 2014 and Henry Melton will likely not be back either.

Dallas’ coaching staff has two younger players in Davon Coleman and Ken Bishop who showed some promise at times, but the Cowboys really need a guy who can make an impact on each player. Jordan Phillips is a player from Oklahoma that oozes athleticism. At 6-foot-5, 330 pounds, Phillips has great size. He gets off the line of scrimmage with ease and he fills out his frame tremendously. Phillips has long arms and broad shoulders.

The 1-technique defensive tackle position is the guy who takes on double teams in the running game. The 1-technique also comes off the field when defenses use their nickel and dime packages. However, Phillips shows the ability to stay on the field for three downs and make an impact in both the running and passing game.
