5. Eric Rowe

Just a few seasons ago, the Cowboys upgraded their secondary. By signing Brandon Carr for $50 million in free agency and moving up to draft Morris Claiborne, the Cowboys took a huge risk they were hoping would pay off. Now three years later, both players have failed in their careers in Dallas.

Luckily enough for the Cowboys, Orlando Scandrick flourished in 2014 and Sterling Moore wasn’t too bad either. The Cowboys have already asked Carr to take a pay cut and, given that he is coming off a torn patellar tendon injury, there isn’t a lot of optimism with Claiborne. With all of this being said, the Cowboys should look into make upgrades.

It should also be said that the Cowboys still haven’t found their answer at the free safety position, as J.J. Wilcox hasn’t been anything special. Eric Rowe out of Utah is a guy that can play cornerback or safety. He has excellent ball skills, plays with a good range, and he isn’t afraid to come up and make plays behind the line of scrimmage. His 6-foot-1, 205-pound body is a little concerning as he is thin, but he has the makings of a guy who can roam around in the secondary in Dallas’ Tampa Two defense.

Defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli needs someone to play the center fielder position of this defense and Rowe fits the bill.
