One of the most shocking stories has been the emergence of West Virginia freshman Zeke Moisey at 125 pounds, but the 133 pounders kept the upsets coming.
In the first 133 pound semifinal, No. 1 seed Chris Dardanes of Minnesota took his undefeated record (26-0) to the mat against No. 13 seed Cody Brewer of Oklahoma (20-1). From start to finish, Brewer was mauling Chris Dardanes on the mat.
After three periods, Brewer had his hand raised with an overwhelming 14-3 win over the top-ranked Dardanes.
It was the first time that Chris Dardanes tasted defeat this year.
Brewer will now advance to the finals on Saturday where he will take on No. 3 Cory Clark of Iowa. In the second semifinal, Clark was able to edge No. 7 James Gulibon of Penn State, 6-5, to reach the finals at the NCAA Wrestling Championships for the first time in his career.
It’s a good year to be an underdog at the NCAA Wrestling Championships.
