By Josh Hill
Minnesota State was the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Frozen Four this year — but their trip ended in the regional semifinals thanks to RIT’s upset victory.
March Madness isn’t the only tournament in college that can feature thrilling upsets, as things are getting crazy in the Frozen Four through the first round of the tournament.
Unlike in the March Madness tournament, there was a No. 16 seed who upended a No. 1 seed in controversial fashion. Minnesota State-Mankato was the top seed in the tournament, but they fell to RIT, who were the bottom seed int he tournament and the last team into the region. That didn’t stop RIT from bouncing the Mustangs out of the Frozen Four.
With Minnesota State out of the tournament, RIT moves on as a hockey cinderella and have given the bracket a nice shake. Here’s a look at the updated bracket now that Minnesota State-Mankato has been eliminated.

It was a stunning loss for Minnesota State, but it’s one that can’t be helped. The call on the ice was reversed, and whether it was right or wrong it’s in the books now. What this means moving forward is the Frozen Four has a Cinderella team of sorts with RIT, as they advance to the Midwest Regional Finals to face either Harvard or Omaha on Sunday.
RIT is a dangerous team, and their road to the Frozen Four is one that could end up in the National Championship after their motivating win over the top seed in the tournament.
