2015 NFL Draft: 8 overrated prospects who could ‘bust’
By Andrew Garda
Byron Jones, CB, UConn
Jones tore up the Combine this past February, which is always a sure sign you need to look at the tape again when a player didn’t enter the event with tremendous hype.
While he has some good instincts and tremendous athleticism, he’s got some serious flaws as well.
Jones loses balance and footing too often, so even though he can recover at times, too often he puts himself in a worse spot than he needs to and even his speed can’t save him. He has a hard time slowing down and changing direction smoothly. He also didn’t see a very high level of competition and while that’s not the end-all-be-all, it’s a factor.
Last season saw him miss the final five games of the season with a shoulder injury as well, and as he’s not the most physical guy on the planet already, there are some concerns about how he holds up at the pro level.
Jones is an intriguing player, but his Combine antics might be floating him too high up draft boards for the talent he has. If he goes too early, expectations may be raised to the point where he cannot possibly meet them.
