8. Heat can’t win without Bosh

One of the most interesting storylines this season might have been the Miami Heat’s push to compete in the East. Before the All-Star break, it seemed that if they got healthy and made a move for another scorer, they could in fact compete with the best in the East come playoff time. Once they acquired Goran Dragic from the Phoenix Suns, it seemed that the Cleveland Cavaliers and former teammate LeBron James were in their cross-hairs.

But then tragedy struck. Chris Bosh was diagnosed with blood clots on his lungs, forcing him to sit out for the remainder of the season. Without Bosh the Heat are a lower tier team in the East. It seems that all they sacrificed to trade for Dragic was wasted and if they had just been patient they could have made a better trade in the offseason.

During the All-Star break I wrote a piece on how the Goran Dragic deal could give the Heat the edge against the Cavs, that this match up would be a blood bath. Two teams with more than just a game on the line, the Heat with a chance to prove to LeBron that he made the wrong choice this past off season and LeBron attempting to prove he made the correct one.

Unfortunately, the Heat were dealt a bad hand and it was too late for them to fold. There is a silver lining in all of this, Bosh is expected to return for next year. So even if the Heat do miss the playoffs, they will be back next season and may be ready to finally make a push at taking down the king.
