4. The Rangers need to avoid the distraction and circus that will follow

If Josh Hamilton is healthy enough to return to the clubhouse, that’s a good sign.

However, when he does step foot into the Rangers clubhouse, there will be a massive following and every move that he makes will be under intense scrutiny.

With each at-bat, coverage will follow and it could definitely lead to a major disruption in team chemistry that the Rangers are trying to build with their players as the compete for the AL West.

It’s not even clear when Hamilton will take the field again, let alone where he will be playing and in what role, but his return will no doubt overshadow the performances of every other player on the team.

Not to say Hamilton doesn’t deserve recognition in his return, but it should only be given for the right reasons. Highlighting him in a triumphant return to the Rangers after all their accomplishments is a fine thing, but watching his return like he’s some lab rat isn’t what Texas needs at all and neither does Hamilton.

By bringing Hamilton back, the Rangers are guaranteeing a presence like none other around him and one that could be potentially harmful to the performance of the rest of the Texas Rangers squad.

For the Rangers it should be about the present and future. Unfortunately with this acquisition, they have dabbled into the past.
