Why it’s a good idea

Why Orlando would be willing to wait for Thibodeau is easy enough to figure out. Thibodeau is a fantastic coach who has led the Chicago Bulls to a 255-139 record over the past five years despite dealing with perpetual injuries.

The Magic already have an intriguing young core that isn’t that far away from competing in the Eastern Conference. Nikola Vucevic, Victor Oladipo and Elfrid Payton are all tremendously talented young players who will be in Orlando for the next several years.

Orlando should have been a lot better than its 25-57 record this season, which fired head coach Jacque Vaughn took a lot of responsibility for. A good coach could have the Magic competing for a playoff spot and more soon enough.

In particular, Orlando needs to improve defensively, and it got a lot better after Vaughn was fired in Feburary. Thibodeau is a great defensive mind  who would continue that upward trend.

Overall, Thibodeau is just a great fit for the Magic.
