3 Starting Pitcher Stay-Aways

1. Chris Sale-Chicago White Sox: The White Sox are still waiting for Sale to be back to his reliable self after missing the beginning of the season.  He had posted three good starts before the wheels fell off in his last outing against Minnesota.  Sale only lasted three innings against the Twins giving up eight earned runs on nine hits causing his ERA to balloon to 5.32.  While most of his outings haven’t been as bad as his ERA would seem to indicate, he’s still a risky proposition for tonight especially taking on a hard-hitting Tigers team many of which have nice splits against him.

2. Jon Lester-Chicago Cubs: Even though Lester has looked better and better as the year has gone on and was at his best in his last start for the Cubs, I’d avoid taking him tonight as he faces the red-hot Cardinals who are 13-2 in St. Louis and got to Lester back on Opening Day.  There is definitely potential upside with Lester today, but he’s too high-risk for his price in most formats in my opinion.

3. Josh Collmenter-Arizona Diamondbacks: Collmenter has been pitching well and dominated the Rockies in his last start lasting eight innings allowing just one unearned run and striking out six. However, he’ll take the mound today at Coors Field which is risky, plus he’s been delayed two days from this start which could mess with his rhythm.
