3 Starting Pitcher Stay-Aways

1. Jordan Zimmermann-Washington Nationals: Zimmermann comes into tonight’s start against the Padres with a 4.20 ERA in his first seven starts.  He seems to have been working out of trouble all season allowing opponents to hit .286 against him and coming in with a 1.35 WHIP.  He has been able to battle through and go at least six innings in all but one of this starts, but the splits are not in his favor on the road tonight in Petco.  Zimmermann does have some upside, but his cost is too high in most formats for the high amount of risk that comes with him.

2. Jered Weaver-Los Angeles Angels: Weaver was outstanding in his last start allowing just six hits in a complete game shutout against the Astros.  He still has a 4.98 ERA on the season, though, and will face a much tougher task tonight as he takes on the O’s in Baltimore.  I still think he’s too risky of a play for tonight since the two starts before his gem he allowed 11 runs in 12 innings. While his last start was definitely a good sign, I’m not sure I’m ready to be back to “all in” on Weaver.

3. Julio Teheran-Atlanta Braves: Atlanta takes on the Marlins in Miami tonight and will look for a much better start from Teheran than his last time out.  Teheran was roughed up for six earned runs in Washington on ten hits in just five innings, but he has had some good starts this season as well.  His inconsistency and less-than-great matchup makes him an option to avoid for tonight unless you can get him at a greatly reduced price.
